Google is set to begin paying content creators in Egyptian pounds starting in May 2025. The tech giant announced that it will shift payments for content creators and publishers on its platforms to local currency, instead of the current USD. This change is part of Google’s global strategy to support creators by making payments in their local currencies.
Local currency payments across multiple countries
The shift to local currency payments is not limited to Egypt. Google already pays content creators in local currencies in several countries, including Chile, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, and the UAE. The company plans to expand this to more countries globally in 2025.
Google’s statement on the change
Google explained in its statement: “We understand that this change may require some financial adjustments, which is why we notified content creators six months in advance to ensure they are prepared. Our support for content creators and publishers in Egypt remains unchanged.”
Rising earnings for Egyptian content creators
According to data, the number of Egyptian YouTube channels generating more than EGP 1 million in annual revenue has increased by 50% year-on-year.
