OIA Strengthens Its Position in the Global Innovation Ecosystem

Oman Investment Authority has strengthened its presence in the international technology and innovation landscape through investments in Cambridge Innovation Capital and Oxford Science Enterprises.

The move expands the authority’s exposure to high-growth startups developing advanced solutions across healthcare, life sciences, semiconductors, scientific technologies, and quantum computing.

The investments form part of OIA’s broader strategy to support emerging technologies, facilitate the transfer of knowledge and expertise to Oman, and contribute to the development of a knowledge-based economy.

They are also expected to generate sustainable, long-term financial returns for the authority’s Future Generations Fund.

Access to Cambridge University Spinouts

Through its investment in Cambridge Innovation Capital, OIA has gained access to companies commercialising research and technologies developed within the University of Cambridge ecosystem.

The portfolio includes CMR Surgical, which develops robotic surgical systems designed to support minimally invasive procedures.

It also includes Pragmatic Semiconductor, a company producing flexible and cost-efficient semiconductor technology for Internet of Things applications.

Another portfolio company is Riverlane, which develops quantum error-correction software intended to accelerate the practical and commercial deployment of quantum computers.

The Cambridge portfolio also includes Immutrin, a biotechnology company developing antibody-based therapies designed to activate the immune system in the treatment of several diseases, including cardiomyopathy.

Exposure to Oxford’s Research and Technology Ecosystem

OIA’s investment in Oxford Science Enterprises gives the authority access to companies emerging from the University of Oxford’s research and innovation ecosystem.

Among these companies is Quantum Motion, which is developing scalable quantum processors using semiconductor-based technologies.

The portfolio also includes Refeyn, a specialist in biomolecule analysis technologies that support pharmaceutical research, drug discovery, and gene therapy development.

Osler Diagnostics is another company within the portfolio. It develops portable diagnostic devices designed to help healthcare providers conduct tests more efficiently and closer to patients.

Oxford Quantum Circuits, meanwhile, develops quantum computing systems aimed at supporting the wider adoption and commercial use of quantum technology.

Supporting Oman’s Technology Ambitions

Ibrahim bin Saeed Al Isri, Head of Private Markets Investments at Oman Investment Authority, said advanced technologies have become a major driver of economic, scientific, and social development.

He explained that investing in companies developing innovative solutions across healthcare, scientific technologies, quantum computing, and other future-focused sectors enables OIA to remain connected to global innovation trends.

The investments also allow the authority to explore opportunities for transferring technology and knowledge to Oman while strengthening the exchange of international expertise.

Al Isri added that the strategy supports Oman’s ambitions in technology and innovation while targeting sustainable financial returns from rapidly expanding sectors with strong long-term growth potential.

Future Generations Fund Targets Long-Term Growth

The investments complement OIA’s wider efforts to support innovation and advanced technologies through the Future Generations Fund.

The fund manages the authority’s international investments across more than 50 countries and focuses on generating sustainable returns through diversified, long-term investments in global markets.

By investing in leading university-linked innovation platforms, OIA is positioning itself to benefit from emerging technologies while supporting Oman’s transition toward a more diversified and knowledge-driven economy.
