OpenAI has announced the expanded availability of ChatGPT Health, making it accessible to all registered users in the United States aged 18 and older across the Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans.
This feature allows users to receive more personalized health answers by linking their health data from apps and medical records, while emphasizing that ChatGPT is not a substitute for specialized medical advice.
OpenAI began testing the feature earlier this year through a dedicated health hub within ChatGPT, allowing users to link data from services such as Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and Function Health, in addition to medical records from systems like Epic and Oracle Health, as well as platforms like One Medical.
With this new expansion, users can now leverage their health data across all ChatGPT conversations, rather than being restricted to the dedicated health section. The company explained that around 70% of health-related inquiries during the testing period were made outside the specialized hub, which prompted the decision to integrate the feature into general chats.
OpenAI revealed that ChatGPT users currently submit about 300 million health-related inquiries per week, compared to 230 million per week when testing of the feature began. This reflects a growing reliance on artificial intelligence for health information.
The company confirmed that its latest model, GPT-5.6 Luna, outperformed GPT-5.5 on the open-source HealthBench benchmark, which evaluates the performance of AI models in answering health questions. OpenAI also noted that it is collaborating with doctors to improve the quality of responses and clarified that it does not use users’ health data to train its models.
Despite these enhancements, OpenAI strictly emphasized that ChatGPT is not designed to diagnose or treat diseases. It urged users to verify health information and to refrain from making any medical decisions without consulting a qualified doctor or specialist.
This expansion comes as AI companies—such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic—continue to develop health-focused tools, despite ongoing debates regarding the accuracy and reliability of AI in providing medical advice.
