Uber has announced a voluntary takeover offer to acquire global food delivery platform Delivery Hero in a deal valued at approximately $14.8 billion, a move that would reshape the global food delivery landscape and significantly strengthen Uber’s presence across fast-growing markets, including the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Under the proposed transaction, Uber will offer €41.50 in cash per share to Delivery Hero shareholders.

The company’s Management Board and Supervisory Board have unanimously welcomed and supported the offer and intend to recommend that shareholders accept it, subject to reviewing the official offer documentation.

Expansion Across 99 Markets

Once completed, the acquisition will expand Uber’s combined mobility and delivery platform to 99 markets worldwide, with pro-forma Gross Bookings of approximately $236 billion based on 2025 figures, further reinforcing its position as one of the world’s largest mobility and delivery platforms.

As part of the broader transaction, Delivery Hero has also agreed to sell parts of its business in 14 markets to New York-based investment firm SSW Partners for approximately $1.6 billion, primarily in markets where Uber Eats and Delivery Hero currently overlap.

Stronger Footprint in the Middle East

Delivery Hero maintains a significant presence across the MENA region through several leading brands, including talabat in Egypt, the UAE, and other Gulf markets, Hungerstation in Saudi Arabia, and Glovo across multiple regional markets.

The acquisition would substantially strengthen Uber’s position in one of the world’s fastest-growing food delivery markets.

Strategic Growth Ambitions

Through the acquisition, Uber aims to expand its global delivery network, improve operational efficiency, and leverage Delivery Hero’s established local brands, merchant relationships, and technology platform.

Commenting on the deal, Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, said combining the two platforms will allow the company to deliver more affordable and reliable services to millions of consumers while creating greater opportunities for merchants and delivery partners worldwide.

€2 Billion Investment in Germany

As part of its commitments following the acquisition, Uber pledged to maintain Delivery Hero’s headquarters in Berlin and preserve its workforce through at least 2029.

The company also plans to invest €2 billion in Germany over the next five years to support business expansion, strengthen its local workforce, and accelerate autonomous vehicle initiatives.

Expected Closing in 2027

The transaction remains subject to shareholder approval and regulatory clearances across multiple jurisdictions. Uber expects the acquisition to close during the second half of 2027.

The proposed deal comes as the global food delivery industry continues to consolidate, with major players pursuing mergers and acquisitions to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen their competitive positions in an increasingly challenging market.
