- UAE-based startup Ray secures $1.2 million in a Seed round
- Focus on building a portable charging-sharing network across high-traffic locations
- Expansion plans target GCC markets with 2,000 stations by year-end
What This Funding Means for the Mobility & Charging Sector
Ray, a UAE-based startup, has raised $1.2 million in a Seed funding round to support the rollout of its portable charging-sharing network. The round included notable angel investors, including the founders of JET.
This investment reflects rising demand for on-the-go charging solutions as smartphone dependency continues to grow across urban environments.
How Ray’s Charging Network Works
Ray is building a network of smart charging stations located in malls, cafés, restaurants, and major transport hubs. The model allows users to rent a portable power bank and return it to any station within the network.
The service is already live in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with an ambitious plan to reach 2,000 locations by the end of the year.
Seamless User Experience Without App Dependency
One of Ray’s key differentiators is its frictionless payment system. Users can access the service through:
- Tap-to-Pay directly at the station without needing an app
- Traditional app-based payment for frequent users
This flexibility removes barriers to usage, especially for tourists or users without internet access.
Solving a Growing Everyday Problem
Ray addresses a widespread issue tied to smartphone usage. Data shows that:
- 90% of users feel stressed when battery drops below 20%
- 25% of devices run out of battery before the end of the day
To solve this, Ray’s power banks offer fast charging capabilities, boosting devices from 20% to 80% in حوالي 30 minutes, with enough capacity for up to two full charges.
Technology Infrastructure and Global Readiness
The company leverages global payment technologies and device connectivity across more than 170 countries. This infrastructure strengthens network reliability and positions Ray for scalable expansion across the GCC and beyond.
