TDRA Launches the Implementation Phase of the Legislative Environment for Information and Communication Technology

To encouraging entrepreneurship and enhancing the investment attractiveness of the UAE

The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has announced the launch of the implementation phase of the Legislative Environment for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) system. This initiative aims to provide an experimental regulatory environment that allows companies in the sector to test new products and services. This step comes in response to the rapid changes in emerging technologies and to offer legislative solutions that align with market developments.

Experimental Environment for Testing Products and Services

The Legislative Environment system offers companies the opportunity to test their products and services within a specially designed experimental environment. This environment evaluates the legislative, social, environmental, and technical dimensions. Applications are submitted through the authority’s official website, where a specialized team assesses the products. After passing the tests, the products receive approval to enter the local market.

Encouraging Innovation and Entrepreneurship

His Excellency Eng. Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, Director General of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, emphasized that this initiative contributes to encouraging entrepreneurship and enhancing the investment attractiveness of the UAE. He pointed out that the continuous development of legal frameworks is essential to keep pace with the rapid changes in the ICT sector, making the legislative environment an innovative solution for identifying and addressing potential challenges before allowing products to be launched in the market.

Steps for Submitting Applications to TDRA

Interested companies can benefit from the legislative environment by submitting applications through the authority’s website. The application includes detailed information about the proposed product or service, which is then evaluated according to specific criteria. If there are any comments, the authority provides a report to the company on the aspects that need improvement before the product can be re-entered into the legislative environment.

Sectors Benefiting from the Legislative Environment

The legislative environment encompasses a wide range of technical products and services, such as virtual and augmented reality, cloud computing, smart applications, the Internet of Things (IoT), digital twins, and blockchain products. This service primarily benefits small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs in the ICT sector.

Through this initiative, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority aims to enhance market dynamics and support innovation in emerging technologies, in alignment with the “We the UAE 2031” vision.
