Memorandum of Understanding Signed to Boost Support for Tech Startups in Egypt
Hossam Heiba, the Head of the Permanent Unit for Entrepreneurship and Startups and the CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, along with Dr. Sherine Mohamed Abdelkader, the Head of the Electronics Research Institute and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the City of Science and Technology for Electronics Research and Industry, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in supporting startups in the technology, electronics, and energy sectors, and to foster innovation among entrepreneurs.
The signing ceremony was attended by Major General Yasser Abbas, Vice Chairman of the Authority, Hossam Abdelkader, Head of the Central Department for Entrepreneurship at the Authority, Dr. Mahmoud Mohamed Salem, Supervisor of Technical and Administrative Affairs and Head of the Department of Electronics and Power Conversion at the Institute, and Engineer Tamer Ahmed from the Executive Office of the City of Science and Technology.
The MoU outlines the exchange of expertise and technical consultations in the field of entrepreneurship, along with joint planning and coordination to strengthen the connection between startups, the scientific community, and the investment environment.
Hossam Heiba emphasized that the MoU reflects ongoing efforts to achieve synergy among all entities involved in the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Egypt, aiming to maximize the utilization of available resources.
Heiba noted that the Permanent Unit strives to provide a supportive environment for entrepreneurship, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs to transform their innovative ideas into real projects, offering comprehensive support, and eliminating challenges that may hinder their progress, ensuring their growth and competitive edge.
Dr. Sherine Abdelkader stated that the MoU aligns with the Institute’s strategic framework, which is consistent with the national strategy for higher education and scientific research.
She highlighted that all resources of the Institute and the City of Science and Technology will be dedicated to supporting startups in the fields of electronics, information and communication technology, and energy, in line with the state’s plans to develop human capital and improve Egypt’s economic performance through the application of research conducted at the Institute.
She also emphasized that the Institute’s capabilities, including state-of-the-art laboratories, advanced technologies, scientific expertise, and connections with international research centers, will be leveraged to support startups that add scientific and economic value to the country.
Hossam Abdelkader, Head of the Central Department for Entrepreneurship at the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, stated that the MoU highlights the unit’s continuous efforts to engage and collaborate with representatives from all stakeholders in the entrepreneurship ecosystem, including various government entities that support the business environment, the private sector, and especially the advisory council of the unit.
