From Students to Entrepreneurs: Establishing a Startup from a Graduation Project

To avoid wasting time at gas stations and make the most of their expensive expenses, we, seven students from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Software Engineering Department, have developed an intelligent application that allows customers to control their fuel expenses by providing them with real-time accurate statistics.

Our project, “Taqapay”, which was presented as part of the university’s final-year student projects, aims to change driving behavior and achieve better fuel economy. The application is an electronic platform that enables customers to benefit from refueling their cars by providing new online payment methods that facilitate payment, and accrue reward points that can be used later.

The application only works with stations equipped with the Taqapay system, and all the customer has to do is open the application, select the type and quantity of fuel desired, and the refueling method.

Not stopping there, we decided to venture into entrepreneurship. We participated in the Fintech Saudi Idea Accelerator, and our project was selected among the top 15 projects. Through this program, we received the necessary support and guidance to turn our idea into an effective and successful startup.

Today, we are proud to be part of the entrepreneurship community, working to realize our vision of providing innovative technological solutions that contribute to improving people’s lives and saving their time and effort.
