Exclusive Interview with ‘EntArabi’: ‘Barakah’ and Its Technological Efforts Against Food Waste

In a conversation with “EntArabi” during the LEAP conference, Rabah Habes, co-founder and CTO of Barakah, shared their ambitious vision in combating food waste through fostering technological innovation and social awareness. Barakah aims to create an ecosystem that brings together food retailers and consumers to save food that would otherwise go to waste, utilizing advanced technologies and innovative methods.

Barakah targets restaurant owners, bakeries, and groceries, offering customized solutions that fit each client individually. They adopt a flexible approach that allows them to collect surplus food at different times—be it in the morning, evening, or midday—based on each client’s surplus schedules.

Expanding their scope of work, Habes announced Barakah’s presence now in six major cities within the Kingdom: Jeddah, Medina, Mecca, Riyadh, Dammam, and Khobar. The ambition does not stop here, as he revealed plans for further future expansions of the company.

Barakah’s initiative shines a light on the issue of food waste and offers practical solutions that combine innovation with social responsibility, contributing to a more sustainable future and awareness of the importance of preserving food resources. By leveraging technology, Barakah seeks to create a positive impact that transcends geographical boundaries, affirming the role of technology as a powerful ally in addressing contemporary environmental and social challenges.
