An investment group backed by BlackRock and the UAE’s MGX has committed an additional $5 billion to Aligned Data Centers following the completion of its full acquisition in a deal valued at nearly $40 billion, marking one of the world’s largest digital infrastructure transactions.

The investment comes amid rapidly growing demand for data centers and high-performance computing infrastructure needed to support artificial intelligence applications and cloud services.

The investor consortium also includes the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Partnership (AIP), which focuses on developing the infrastructure required to power next-generation AI technologies, including advanced data centers and computing platforms.

The new funding will support Aligned Data Centers’ global expansion strategy and strengthen its ability to meet the rising computing needs of AI companies and cloud service providers.

Founded in Texas in 2013 and headquartered in Dallas, Aligned Data Centers currently operates or is developing 51 data centers with a combined operational and planned capacity exceeding 6.4 gigawatts across North and South America, making it one of the fastest-growing companies in the sector.

The company also leverages proprietary cooling technologies protected by more than 50 patents, helping reduce water consumption while improving energy efficiency and lowering the environmental impact of large-scale data center operations.

Andrew Schaap will continue serving as Chief Executive Officer alongside the existing management team, with the company maintaining its headquarters in Dallas. The next phase of growth will focus on entering new markets and expanding infrastructure to support the growing computing requirements of AI and cloud computing customers.

The investment group has also outlined plans to increase its capital commitments to an initial $30 billion, with the potential to scale total investments to as much as $100 billion in future phases as part of its long-term digital infrastructure strategy.

The deal highlights the accelerating global investment in data center infrastructure, which has become a critical foundation for the AI economy as companies race to secure the computing capacity needed to support future innovation.
