Apple is expected to unveil a new set of artificial intelligence features during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, WWDC 2026, as the company seeks to strengthen its position in the fast-moving AI race.
This year’s conference carries special significance, as it is expected to be Tim Cook’s final WWDC appearance as Apple CEO before John Ternus takes over the role in September 2026.
WWDC usually focuses on software updates and developer tools, unlike Apple’s fall events, which are typically centered on new iPhone launches. However, the 2026 edition comes at a time when Apple is under increasing pressure to show stronger progress in artificial intelligence after rivals moved faster in introducing advanced AI products and services.
Analysts expect Apple to introduce broader updates to Apple Intelligence, including new AI-powered capabilities and deeper integration across iPhone, Mac, and iPad. Siri is expected to be one of the main areas of focus, as Apple works to turn the voice assistant into a more capable and conversational AI tool.
The upgraded version of Siri may be able to understand context more effectively, continue previous conversations, remember user preferences, and complete multiple tasks through a single request. If delivered successfully, this could help Apple redefine how users interact with its ecosystem across devices.
Analysts believe a more advanced, agentic Siri could become a core part of Apple’s daily user experience, similar to features such as AirDrop and Handoff, which already connect Apple devices in a seamless way.
The conference also comes during what analysts describe as a transition year for Apple. Beyond the expected leadership change, the company is facing a crucial moment in its AI strategy, especially after criticism over delays in rolling out some previously announced AI features.
Although Apple rarely introduces major hardware products at its developer conference, this year’s software updates could offer hints about the company’s future direction in areas such as foldable devices, wearables, and smart home products.
Apple’s main challenge now is to prove that it can move beyond catching up with competitors and deliver AI features that feel deeply integrated into the everyday user experience. For that reason, WWDC 2026 could become one of the company’s most important developer conferences in years.
