Google has expanded access to Gemini’s personalized image generation feature, making it available for free to all eligible users in the United States. The feature, powered by Nano Banana, was previously limited to Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers.
The update is part of Gemini’s broader Personal Intelligence experience, which allows the app to generate images based on a user’s interests, preferences, and connected Google services.
How Gemini’s Personalized Image Generation Works
Gemini can now create more personalized images without requiring users to write detailed prompts. Instead of specifying every element they want in an image, users can ask Gemini to generate something based on their favorite things, memories, or personal interests.
For example, rather than typing, “Create an illustration of me with my favorite things, such as coffee and baking,” a user can simply say, “Create an illustration of me and my favorite things.”
Gemini can then use information from connected Google services to better understand the user’s preferences and generate a more relevant image.
Gemini Can Use Google Photos
One of the key additions is Gemini’s ability to pull actual images from Google Photos, meaning users do not need to manually upload reference photos each time they want to create a personalized image.
With the right permissions enabled, Gemini can use photos from a user’s Google Photos library to create customized visuals that feel more personal and accurate.
This could be useful for generating illustrations, creative portraits, memory-based images, or designs inspired by a user’s daily life and interests.
Personal Intelligence Remains Optional
Google says Personal Intelligence is an opt-in feature. Users can choose which Google apps Gemini is allowed to access, including services such as Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Search.
Once enabled, Personal Intelligence becomes the default setting for prompts, but users can turn it off through a new toggle in the Tools menu.
This gives users more control over how much personal context Gemini can use when responding to prompts or generating images.
The expansion marks another step in Google’s push to make Gemini a more personalized AI assistant, rather than just a chatbot.
By combining image generation with personal context, Gemini can create visuals that are more closely aligned with each user’s preferences, memories, and lifestyle.
The feature also reduces the need for complex prompts, making AI image generation easier for everyday users who may not know how to write detailed image descriptions.
Gemini Continues to Expand Its AI Features
The update comes as Google continues to develop the Gemini app with more advanced AI tools. Recent announcements include a new Daily Brief feature, a redesigned interface, access to the Gemini Omni AI video model, and a personal AI agent called Gemini Spark.
Gemini has also continued to grow as one of the major AI platforms, surpassing 750 million monthly active users earlier this year.
With personalized image generation now available more widely, Google is strengthening Gemini’s position as a central AI assistant across its ecosystem of apps and services.
