The US government has issued a new export control directive, citing national security authorities, requiring the suspension of access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all foreign nationals, whether they are inside or outside the United States.
The order also applies to foreign national employees of Anthropic, forcing the company to abruptly disable access to both models for all customers in order to ensure compliance with the directive.
Anthropic confirmed that access to all other Claude models remains unaffected. The company said it believes the decision may be the result of a misunderstanding and is working to restore access as soon as possible.
Anthropic apologized to customers for the sudden disruption and said it continues to engage with the relevant authorities to resolve the issue.
