- Vercel Acquires Stakpak to Strengthen Its AI Infrastructure Capabilities
- The acquisition is part of Vercel’s strategy to evolve from a web application hosting platform into a comprehensive AI infrastructure provider—a vision CEO Guillermo Rauch refers to as the “AI Cloud.”
Vercel, the U.S.-based cloud platform valued at $9.3 billion, has acquired Egyptian startup Stakpak, the developer of one of the first open-source autonomous DevOps agents, as part of its strategy to build a comprehensive infrastructure platform for AI-powered software.
The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The deal marks Vercel’s third acquisition in less than a year, following the purchases of NuxtLabs in July 2025 and Better Auth earlier this month.
From Cairo to Silicon Valley
Founded by Egyptian entrepreneur George Fahmy, Stakpak began as a bootstrapped startup in Cairo, operating for two years before raising a $500,000 pre-seed round in early 2025.
The funding was led by P1 Ventures, with participation from Digital Currency Group, 500 Global, and Instabug co-founders Moataz Soliman and Omar Gabr.
Although Fahmy later relocated to San Francisco, the company retained its core engineering team in Egypt, allowing it to develop advanced infrastructure technology while maintaining a lean operating model.
Building the Infrastructure Layer for AI
Stakpak initially launched as an AI-powered assistant that enabled developers to generate infrastructure-as-code configurations using natural language, integrating with platforms such as Terraform and OpenTofu.
The startup later evolved into a production-grade autonomous DevOps platform capable of reducing infrastructure management tasks from nearly four hours to around 50 minutes.
It also introduced open-source agent frameworks and AI-driven infrastructure security systems, gaining traction among developers building self-managing cloud environments.
Vercel Expands Its AI Cloud Vision
The acquisition aligns with Vercel’s broader ambition to evolve beyond front-end hosting into what CEO Guillermo Rauch describes as the “AI Cloud”—a platform designed for deploying, managing, and operating AI-native applications.
The company believes the next generation of software will increasingly be developed and managed by autonomous AI agents rather than human developers alone.
In September 2025, Vercel raised $300 million in a Series F funding round, reaching a valuation of $9.3 billion. By February 2026, its annual recurring revenue had climbed to $340 million, up from $100 million at the beginning of 2024.
Rauch also revealed that nearly 30% of applications deployed on Vercel are now generated by AI agents, as the company continues preparing for a potential public listing.
Completing the AI Agent Infrastructure Stack
Stakpak strengthens Vercel’s capabilities in autonomous cloud infrastructure management, complementing its recent acquisition of Better Auth, which focuses on AI agent identity and authentication.
Together, the acquisitions enable Vercel to offer an integrated platform that combines deployment, authentication, and infrastructure management—three core components of the emerging AI software ecosystem.
Commenting on the acquisition, George Fahmy said the Stakpak team will join Vercel to continue developing agentic infrastructure technologies, while the company’s open-source projects will remain available to the developer community.
A Landmark Exit for Egypt’s Startup Ecosystem
The acquisition represents one of the most notable exits for an Egyptian startup in the DevOps and cloud infrastructure space, highlighting the growing global demand for engineering talent emerging from the Middle East and Africa.
It also underscores the increasing influence of startups from emerging markets in shaping the next generation of AI infrastructure, with companies from Egypt, Ethiopia, and France contributing key technologies that are attracting the attention of global technology leaders.
