During the Seamless Conference held in Cairo on September 2-3, an interview was conducted with Nelly Mahmoud, Head of Corporate Communications and responsible for the Mint program at EG Bank. The interview covered several aspects of the bank’s role in supporting entrepreneurs and startups, as well as international cooperation protocols.
Supporting Entrepreneurship and Startups
Since the launch of the Mint program, EG Bank has been one of the pioneering banks in Egypt that supports entrepreneurs and startups. When asked if the bank is currently focusing on specific sectors, Nelly Mahmoud confirmed that the bank is particularly focused on startups operating in fintech areas such as consumer finance, logistics, and leasing. She also mentioned that the bank is currently running a program to support ten startups, emphasizing the importance of focusing on innovation and the use of technology in providing financial services.
Support Directed Exclusively to Egyptian Companies
Regarding the direction of support, Nelly clarified that EG Bank currently limits its support to Egyptian companies only, emphasizing that the primary goal is to strengthen the local economy and support startups that contribute innovative solutions to the Egyptian market.
Cooperation Protocol with Misk
Nelly Mahmoud concluded the interview by discussing the cooperation protocol signed between EG Bank and the Saudi Misk Foundation. She explained that this protocol aims to facilitate international expansion for startups, where EG Bank sends Egyptian companies looking to expand into the Saudi market to Misk. In contrast, Misk sends Saudi companies interested in entering the Egyptian market to EG Bank. She expressed optimism that this cooperation will enhance opportunities for startups in both countries, providing them with new growth platforms and promising regional expansion opportunities.
These efforts are part of EG Bank’s vision to strengthen the digital economy and support innovation in fintech, making it a strategic partner for ambitious startups in Egypt.
