Verbatica Secures $700K Angel Investment to Revolutionize English and Arabic Language Learning in MENA
Verbatica, a UAE-based startup, has secured $700,000 in angel investment to launch an innovative educational platform for learning English and Arabic. This funding will enable the company to expand into the Middle East and North African (MENA) markets and gear up for a subsequent funding round set for November 2024.
Nikita Savilov, co-founder and CEO of Verbatica, is an MGIMO graduate with over a decade of experience at Skyeng. He co-founded the company with Nikolay Morozov. The Verbatica platform, developed with input from over a hundred active teachers, leverages a unique methodology supported by adaptive artificial intelligence, enhancing the effectiveness of language learning. Users can choose to learn independently or with a teacher, with the flexibility to switch modes as needed. All educational materials, including dictionaries and flashcards, are centralized on the platform.
One of Verbatica’s unique features is its Language Quotient (LQ) concept, which measures language proficiency across five key areas: reading, listening, writing, speaking, and cultural immersion. This last aspect is a distinct innovation by the development team, encouraging users to immerse themselves in the culture of the language they are learning by engaging with local customs, history, and media, including slang and social media trends.
The demo testing phase for Verbatica is set to begin on August 15, with the official platform launch planned for the end of August, coinciding with the new academic year.
Nikita Savilov commented on the choice of UAE as the launch site, highlighting the country’s diverse, multilingual population and significant demand for language learning. According to the Dubai Land Department, Russians were among the top property buyers in the UAE during the first half of 2024, emphasizing the relevance of Arabic and English in the region. Verbatica aims to cater to this demand, helping individuals enhance their career prospects with English proficiency and integrate socially through Arabic language skills. Future plans include expansion into Indonesia and broader Asia.
In the upcoming funding round in November, Verbatica aims to raise an additional $2 million to further its mission of transforming language learning in the region.
