Social media platforms are facing a growing spam problem, especially as AI tools make it easier to create large numbers of posts and comments quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reddit says it is now using tools powered by large language models, or LLMs, to detect spam, fake activity, and bot-like behavior more effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ironic part is that much of today\u2019s spam is also being created with AI tools. This means platforms are now using AI to fight a problem that AI helped make worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Reddit, the platform blocks around 23 million spam views every day and detects about 25,000 new spam posts and comments daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company says its updated AI tools can identify subtle patterns of fake behavior, coordinated activity, and artificial hype that older systems may have missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reddit also says these tools helped reduce users\u2019 exposure to spam by 20% from January to March, compared with the previous three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This comes as major platforms like YouTube, Meta, Instagram, and TikTok continue to deal with the rise of AI-generated content. Some platforms require users to disclose AI-generated content, while others are giving users more control over how much AI content they see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
