{"id":69948,"date":"2026-07-02T20:12:32","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T17:12:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entarabi.com\/?p=69948"},"modified":"2026-07-02T20:52:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T17:52:21","slug":"u-s-lifts-export-curbs-on-anthropic-s-fab","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entarabi.com\/en\/2026\/07\/u-s-lifts-export-curbs-on-anthropic-s-fab\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Lifts Export Curbs on Anthropic&#8217;s Fable 5 and Mythos 5 Following Security Upgrade"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\">The U.S. Department of Commerce has lifted export restrictions on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anthropic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Anthropic&#8217;s AI models<\/a>, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, less than three weeks after imposing them, clearing the way for the models&#8217; return following the company&#8217;s rollout of a new security framework developed in coordination with U.S. regulators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\">Anthropic said it resumed access to <a href=\"https:\/\/entarabi.com\/en\/2026\/06\/austria-urges-eu-to-consider-hosting-anthropic-amid-u-s-curbs-on-advanced-ai-models\/\">Fable 5<\/a> for users last Wednesday through its Claude platform and related services, with availability set to expand across cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry, in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\">The Department of Commerce imposed export restrictions on the two models on June 12 after a report by Amazon researchers identified a technique that could bypass certain safeguards in Fable 5. The method enabled the model to detect several software vulnerabilities and, in one case, generate proof-of-concept code demonstrating how one of those vulnerabilities could be exploited<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\">The restrictions forced Anthropic to suspend access to both models for all users because it lacked an immediate mechanism to verify users&#8217; eligibility under U.S. export control regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\">The company said it spent the past two weeks working with U.S. regulators and industry partners to develop a new security classification system. According to Anthropic, testing showed the framework successfully blocked more than 99% of attempts to circumvent the models&#8217; safeguards, paving the way for the removal of the export restrictions and the resumption of the models&#8217; deployment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\">Anthropic also confirmed that it has restored access to Mythos 5 for a number of U.S. organizations and is continuing to work with the U.S. government to gradually expand availability to additional partners in the United States and overseas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\">The company added that it will continue collaborating with the U.S. government and industry stakeholders to establish a common framework for assessing vulnerabilities and attempts to bypass AI safety systems.
