Wa’ed Ventures invests $500 million in US-based Resemble AI to advance AI voice generation and deepfake detection

Wa’ed Ventures, the investment arm of Saudi Aramco, has invested $500 million in Resemble AI, a US-based company specializing in AI-driven voice generation and real-time deepfake detection.

The investment aims to support Resemble AI’s expansion plans in the Middle East and enable Saudi organizations to leverage advanced technologies for detecting fake content and analyzing audio media using artificial intelligence.

This follows Resemble AI’s strategic $13 million funding round in December, which included participation from prominent investors such as Google AI Future Fund, Sony Innovation Fund, Javelin, and Ubiquity.

The investment comes amid a global surge in AI-related fraud, including deepfake-based attacks. Wa’ed Ventures’ funding targets technologies that enhance digital security and promote responsible AI adoption in the region.

Saudi Arabia is also strengthening regulatory frameworks to address these challenges, including laws like the Cybercrime Law, which criminalizes the dissemination of false or misleading information that may threaten public security or order.

Anas Alqahtani, CEO of Wa’ed Ventures, commented:

“Our role goes beyond financing; we support startups in scaling globally while aligning with the Kingdom’s priorities in AI governance and digital trust”.

He add:

” Resemble AI’s deepfake detection technologies help promote safe and responsible AI adoption across government and private sectors.”

Zohaib Ahmed, Founder and CEO of Resemble AI, added:

“Deepfake incidents in Saudi Arabia rose by 600% over the past year, reflecting the growing need for advanced solutions capable of detecting digital threats in real time”.

He add:

” Organizations in the region require technologies that can operate within their own infrastructure without sending sensitive data to external servers.”

Resemble AI’s platform provides AI-powered tools to detect manipulation in audio and digital media, with deployment options available both on the cloud and on-premises within enterprise infrastructure.
