The UAE-based startup Utexo, which specializes in blockchain infrastructure, has closed a $7.5 million seed funding round led by Tether, with the aim of facilitating stablecoin payments—particularly USDT—directly over the Bitcoin network.
The round also saw participation from a number of global institutional investors, including Big Brain Holdings, Portal Ventures, Franklin Templeton, Maven11 Capital, and Fulgur Ventures.
Utexo is developing a software infrastructure that enables digital wallets, cryptocurrency exchanges, and global payment companies to process stablecoin transactions directly. The company focuses on building programmable infrastructure that allows these entities to handle stablecoin payments seamlessly.
Through a suite of dedicated APIs and software tools, financial institutions can execute USDT payments over the Bitcoin network without the need to rebuild their internal systems, compliance protocols, or custody models.
Utexo also leverages layer-2 protocols such as Lightning and RGB to address traditional blockchain challenges, aiming to reduce transaction costs while ensuring user privacy through encrypted operational data and concealed participant details.
Previously, Utexo introduced a business model based on fixed fees payable in USDT, protecting institutional clients from unpredictable network fluctuations.
This technical setup ensures near-instant settlement—completed in under one second—providing financial service providers with the flexibility needed to manage high-volume cross-border transactions.
