Google has begun expanding access to its Canvas feature for all users of its search engine in the United States within the AI-powered search mode, after previously limiting it to users participating in experimental programs through Google Labs.

The move reflects the company’s broader strategy to transform its search engine from a tool for finding information into a comprehensive workspace for content creation and project management powered by artificial intelligence.

The Canvas feature allows users to create documents or custom digital tools directly within search results, turning the search process into an interactive environment for development and productivity.

The new service also enables users to create study guides by uploading notes and educational resources, while allowing research papers or reports to be converted into web pages or educational quizzes, in addition to generating audio or text summaries of content.

The feature is integrated with Google’s broader AI ecosystem, particularly the Gemini model family. Subscribers to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra can access the company’s latest models, including Gemini 3, which offers an expanded context window of up to one million tokens, enabling the processing of complex projects and large files.

This level of computing capability allows users to analyze long documents or large datasets within the same workspace. By simply describing an idea, the system can automatically generate the necessary code to build a simple app, game, or interactive tool that can be shared with others.

The tool also supports creative writing and project improvement through AI-generated suggestions and feedback, as Google continues to integrate artificial intelligence more deeply into the search experience and position it as a full productivity platform.
