On December 17, Google announced a major update to its AI-powered Search experience, introducing Gemini 3 Flash as the default model for AI Mode globally, while also expanding access to Gemini 3 Pro and advanced AI creation tools for users in the United States.
Gemini 3 Flash Becomes the Default Model in AI Mode Worldwide
Gemini 3 Flash is Google’s latest model designed specifically for Search, combining the advanced reasoning capabilities of Gemini 3 with the speed required for real-time queries. Starting today, it is rolling out globally as the default model in AI Mode.
According to Google, Gemini 3 Flash delivers strong performance across reasoning, tool usage, and multimodal capabilities, enabling AI Mode to handle complex questions with greater precision—without sacrificing speed.
Smarter, More Context-Aware Search Experience
With the introduction of Gemini 3 Flash, AI Mode is now better at understanding nuanced user queries and constraints, providing more thoughtful and well-structured responses. Users continue to benefit from real-time information and relevant links from across the web, allowing them to explore topics further and take action directly from Search.
Expanded Access to Gemini 3 Pro and Advanced Image Creation Tools
As part of the same update, Google is expanding access to Gemini 3 Pro within Search for users in the United States. By selecting “Thinking with 3 Pro” in the AI Mode model menu, users can access deeper assistance for complex questions, including dynamic visual layouts, interactive tools, and simulations generated in real time.
Google also announced broader availability of Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image), its advanced image generation and editing model. U.S. users can access these capabilities through AI Mode by selecting “Create Images Pro.”
Subscribers to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra will receive higher usage limits for these advanced tools, as Google continues to integrate its most capable AI models directly into the Search experience.
