Orange Egypt Invests 50M Euros to Support Startups in Africa
Engineer Yasser Shaker, the CEO and Managing Director of Orange Egypt, confirmed that the company has allocated 50 million euros to support startups in the field of entrepreneurship across Africa, aiming to encourage youth innovation. In a press conference, he added that the company has invested in around 40 companies, with Egyptian companies receiving the largest share of the investment. He emphasized that Egypt is one of the top three countries in Africa in terms of entrepreneurship, and the company seeks to strengthen its position as a key hub for reaching other countries in the continent.
Shaker also pointed out that Orange Egypt will showcase a wide range of services and solutions during its participation in the “Cairo ICT” exhibition, scheduled to take place from November 17 to 20. These offerings go beyond just being a telecommunications operator. He explained that the “Orange Business” sector, which includes over 3,000 engineers, along with “Orange Labs,” which houses about 100 engineers specializing in programming outside Egypt, will be part of these presentations.
Additionally, Shaker mentioned that the company will also highlight initiatives aimed at supporting youth, including the “Orange Digital Development Center” in Cairo. This center focuses on training youth in digital skills and preparing them for the job market. Around 1,000 individuals are trained annually at this center, and a new center was recently opened in Aswan Governorate to support youth in that region.
