Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Complex Hosts Investor Networking Event for Startups

The Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Complex organized a special gathering for the network of investors in startups, commonly known as “angel investors,” which the complex launched earlier.

The event was attended by prominent investors and entrepreneurs from various innovative and technological sectors in the country.

The goal was to introduce the model of this type of investment and its role in advancing the investment sector in small and medium-sized companies in Sharjah, providing financing and necessary support to innovative startups, and connecting them with diverse experiences.

The session, titled “Impactful Investment: Preparing for the Twenty-Eighth Conference of the Parties (COP28),” featured a insightful and inspiring presentation by Sofia Ochibska, a prominent speaker in the field. The session highlighted the subtle differences in impactful investment in the period leading up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference “COP28.

Several innovative startup companies also showcased their ideas and capabilities to potential investors, aligning investments with sustainable and impactful projects.

The session covered various important topics, starting with an introduction to the model of this type of investment. It also addressed understanding and managing the risks and prospects of angel investment, emphasizing the necessity of having a diversified portfolio to reduce risks and explore new opportunities to support local companies.

Discussions included the best possible ways to reach potential entrepreneurs, whether through launching initiatives, holding introductory meetings, or sessions. The key milestones for the upcoming phase were also identified.

The Sharjah Network for Technology and Startup Investors (Angel Investors) was launched to support innovative startups and entrepreneurs within a comprehensive system driven by the UAE. The initiative aims to solidify the UAE’s position as a global hub for innovation, contributing to making the UAE economy a global testing ground for new concepts of advanced future technologies.

The network is expected to facilitate the transformation of individuals with financial capabilities into specialized investors in this type of investment, encouraging them to invest in emerging technologies. The network will support entrepreneurs in receiving early-stage funding, developing economic clusters globally in innovation, creativity, and design, and positioning local companies among the world’s best in technology and advanced services

Additionally, the network will assist company owners in receiving investments, negotiating deal terms, joining business accelerators, preparing their financial statements, and being ready to present their ideas to angel investors.
